Hailey Farkas is the founder and CEO of CanadianRVT. Hailey grew up on a dairy farm in Caledonia, Ontario, and started working in veterinary clinics when she was 15. She studied Agriculture at the University of Guelph and furthered her education in the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College. She became a Registered Veterinary Technician in 2011.

Hailey gained a wide variety of experience working in small and exotic animal practices and at a wildlife rehabilitation and education facility. Upon graduation from the Veterinary Technician program, Hailey completed a Large Animal Biosecurity Externship through the OAVT before moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba. During her five years out West, she worked in a predominantly large animal practice with an in-house surgical suite for horses, cattle, and small ruminants. She also co-taught the Veterinary Office Hospital Assistant Program before moving back to Ontario in early 2016.

During her years in practice, Hailey recognized and experienced many challenges that an RVT working in the industry can face. This developed into a strong passion for driving the profession forward. By challenging the status quo, she is advocating for and creating resources for RVTs professionally and personally.

Along with being an RVT, Hailey is also a certified Life Coach and helps RVTs work through mental blocks holding them back. That way, they may be fairly compensated and utilized to the fullest of their ability. This leads to reduced burnout rates, healthy boundaries, work/life balance, and creates a fulfilling career in the long run. She believes being an RVT can be a lifelong career rather than a 5-7 year job.

In addition to developing CanadianRVT and coaching RVTs, Hailey works at a small animal practice. She sits on the Board of Directors for the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians and the Registered Veterinary Technologists and Technicians of Canada and is involved in various working and other stakeholder groups. She has also facilitated labs in the Veterinary Technician program at Seneca College, and created, developed and taught Clinical Pathology and Advanced Clinical Pathology courses.

Hailey lives on a hobby farm in central Ontario with two young daughters, two Anatolian Shepherds, two cats, a handicapped parrot and 13 chickens.
